CogMAC is a cognitive mechanism to enhance the IEEE 802.11 wireless
network capable of dynamic optimization of multiple link layer parameters during runtime. This optimization is performed having no direct knowledge regarding network performance at the end-to-end paths. Instead, the cognitive optimization loop is driven by past protocol performance experience.
